I’m a former engineer turned stay at home mom turned entrepreneur. I have an unusual gift of being creative while also having an analytical side of me who loves spreadsheets, business, and numbers.
I’ve used this gift in starting my other business Roots & Wings Furniture. It changed me, gave me so much more confidence and opened up a world of small business I didn’t even know was a possibility. After 6 years of blogging, video teaching and hands on service work, I was ready to try something new.
I started pouring candles as a joy project – first using vintage mason jars – I had no idea it would be so much fun. I kept practicing and slowly learning how to perfect the process. Then in 2019 I rebranded the candle portion of my business to become Pittsburgh Candle Works. I saw a need in the market for high end, artistic candles that celebrate and show pride for the city we call home.
Candles provide such comfort and warmth to your home – and can be so expressive through scent. I not only wanted to create candles that smelled amazing and were clean burning, but I decided to add art. I was fortunate enough to have a friend going to art school, so I pulled her in on the idea and she created our first artwork. Now the candles are pieces of art – something expressive that can be shared with anyone who loves Pittsburgh.
Being a part of the Maker Movement in Pittsburgh has been so much fun, I look forward to more collaborations, partnerships and more as we grow.
